At Croxley Danes School we have an exciting programme of extracurricular activities, including school productions, concerts and individual music lessons on many instruments.
Private Drama tuition at Croxley Danes
Last year we successfully introduced LAMDA lessons, which run on a Friday and in rotation throughout the day (very similar to the music peripatetic lessons in school). The lessons are taught by an external LAMDA teacher and focus on Acting OR Musical Theatre. Students work towards recognised examinations from Grade 1 up to Gold medal/ Grade 8 (further information can be found on their website https://www.lamda.ac.uk/lamda-exams/our-exams)
The individual lessons are 30 minutes (Musical Theatre OR Acting) or you can apply for joint ACTING lessons (this is subject to pairing and availability). The cost per term is £275.00 for ten 30 minute individual lessons, or £137.50 for 30 minute shared lessons. If your child is in receipt of free school meals, you can apply for partial funding for the lessons.
Private instrumental tuition at Croxley Danes
We have a thriving Creative Arts Department at Croxley Danes School. As well as many extra-curricular opportunities, we also offer private instrumental lessons.
Lessons that are currently available in school are for piano/keyboard, voice, guitar (electric, acoustic and classical), drums, violin, cello, trumpet, trombone, oboe, saxophone and clarinet. We also hope to offer other instruments in September if there is enough demand.
The school has a team of experienced, well-qualified peripatetic teachers providing 30 weekly 30-minute lessons per academic year. 15-minute lessons are available to beginners in their first year.
Fees are agreed annually by the school. At present the termly fees are £300 for ten 30 minute lessons and £150 for ten 15-minute lessons. For those in receipt of Pupil Premium Funding, 15 minute instrumental (or LAMDA) lessons can be fully subsidised by the school. If you wish to receive a 30 minute lesson then the additional 15 minutes will be at parental expense.
Parents are reminded that acceptance of the offer of lessons forms a binding contract. Five lessons’ written notice is required to discontinue lessons or change to another instrument. This notice period may be worked or not at the request of the parent. Please note that once lessons have been applied for, since we will have arranged the time with the peripatetic teacher concerned, this notice fee is payable even if your child decides not to take the offered lessons.
Students in Years 7 to 9 are taught during school lesson time on a rotation system. Year 10 and 11 students will be taught either in their free time, in non-GCSE lessons (such as Personal Development) or occasionally when unavoidable, in academic lessons.
The peripatetic teachers regularly enter students for graded music exams from ABRSM, Trinity or RSL.
We aim to provide opportunities for students to take part in a range of musical ensembles. More details about this will soon be available on the music department page on the school website. All instrumentalists of a suitable standard are expected to join in at least one group activity, as this is a valuable learning experience for the student, as well as allowing them to share their music-making with others and helping to enhance the musical profile of the school
